English Translation

“O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is ever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You which You named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Quran the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my sadness, and the reliever of my anxiety.”

(Urdu Translation)

About this Supplication & Hadith Context

Meaning, spiritual background, and authentic virtues from the Sunnah

✦The Master Prophetic Remedy for Depression and Sorrow

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'No servant is afflicted with worry (Hammam) or sorrow (Hazan) and says: Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, nasiyati bi-yadika... an taj'alal-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa noora sadri, wa jala'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi, except that Allah will remove their sorrow and anxiety and replace it with joy and relief!' When the companions asked if they should learn these words, the Prophet ﷺ replied: 'Yes, everyone who hears them should memorize them' (Musnad Ahmad 3712, Sahih Ibn Hibban 972).

✦Making the Quran the Springtime of Your Heart

This supplication addresses mental health at its deepest spiritual core. By calling the Quran 'Rabi'a qalbi' (the spring of my heart), the believer asks Allah to revive a withered, depressed soul just as spring rain revives dead earth with blooming flowers, wiping out darkness and chronic sorrow.
