Dua Kumayl (Supplication of Kumayl)

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ الَّتِي وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ

allahumma in-ni as-aluka bi-rah-matikal-lati wasi`at kul-la shay

O Allah, I ask You by Your mercy, which embraces all things;

وَبِقُوَّتِكَ الَّتِي قَهَرْتَ بِهَا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ

wa bi-qu-watikal-lati qahar-ta biha kul-la shay

And by Your strength, through which You dominatest all things,

وَخَضَعَ لَهَا كُلُّ شَيْءٍ

wa khada`a laha kul-lu shay

And toward which all things are humble,

وَذَلَّ لَهَا كُلُّ شَيْءٍ

wa dhal-la laha kul-lu shay

And before which all things are lowly;

وَبِجَبَرُوتِكَ الَّتِي غَلَبْتَ بِهَا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ

wa bi-jabarutikal-lati ghalab-ta biha kul-la shay

And by Your invincibility through which You overwhelmest all things,

وَبِعِزَّتِكَ الَّتِي لا يَقُومُ لَهَا شَيْءٌ

wa bi-`izzatikal-lati la yaqumu laha shay

And by Your might, which nothing can resist,

وَبِعَظَمَتِكَ الَّتِي مَلأَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ

wa bi-`azamatikal-lati mala'at kul-la shay

And by Your greatness, which has filled all things,

وَبِسُلْطَانِكَ الَّذِي عَلا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ

wa bi-sultanikal-ladhi `ala kul-la shay

And by Your authority, which towers over all things,

وَبِوَجْهِكَ الْبَاقِي بَعْدَ فَنَاءِ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

wa bi-wajhikal-baqi ba`da fana'i kul-li shay

And by Your Face, which abides after the annihilation of all things,

وَبِأَسْمَائِكَ الَّتِي مَلأَتْ أَرْكَانَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

wa bi-asma'ikal-lati mala'at arkana kul-li shay

And by Your Names, which have filled the foundations of all things,

وَبِعِلْمِكَ الَّذِي أَحَاطَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ

wa bi-`ilmikal-ladhi ahata bi-kul-li shay

And by Your knowledge, which encompasses all things,

وَبِنُورِ وَجْهِكَ الَّذِي أَضَاءَ لَهُ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ

wa bi-nuri wajhikal-ladhi ada'a lahu kul-lu shay

And by the light of Your countenance, through which all things are illuminated!

يَا نُورُ يَا قُدُّوسُ، يَا أَوَّلَ الأَوَّلِينَ، وَيَا آخِرَ الآخِرِينَ

ya Nuru ya Quddus, ya Awwalal-awwalin, wa ya Akhiral-akhirin

O Light! O All-Holy! O First of the first and O Last of the last!

اَللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِيَ الذُّنُوبَ الَّتِي تَهْتِكُ الْعِصَمَ

allahummagh-fir liyal-dhunubal-lati tahtikul-`isam

O Allah, forgive me those sins which tear apart safeguards!

اَللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِيَ الذُّنُوبَ الَّتِي تُنْزِلُ النِّقَمَ

allahummagh-fir liyal-dhunubal-lati tunzilun-niqam

O Allah, forgive me those sins which draw down adversities!

اَللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِيَ الذُّنُوبَ الَّتِي تُغَيِّرُ النِّعَمَ

allahummagh-fir liyal-dhunubal-lati tughayyirun-ni`am

O Allah, forgive me those sins which alter blessings!

اَللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِيَ الذُّنُوبَ الَّتِي تَحْبِسُ الدُّعَاءَ

allahummagh-fir liyal-dhunubal-lati tahbisud-du`a

O Allah, forgive me those sins which hold back supplication!

اَللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِيَ الذُّنُوبَ الَّتِي تَقْطَعُ الرَّجَاءَ

allahummagh-fir liyal-dhunubal-lati taqta`ur-raja'

O Allah, forgive me those sins which cut down hopes!

اَللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِيَ الذُّنُوبَ الَّتِي تُنْزِلُ الْبَلاءَ

allahummagh-fir liyal-dhunubal-lati tunzilul-bala'

O Allah, forgive me those sins which bring down tribulations!

اَللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي كُلَّ ذَنْبٍ أَذْنَبْتُهُ، وَكُلَّ خَطِيئَةٍ أَخْطَأْتُهَا

allahummagh-fir li kul-la dhanbin adhnabtuh, wa kul-la khati'atin akhta'tuha

O Allah, forgive me every sin I have committed and every mistake I have made!

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَيْكَ بِذِكْرِكَ، وَأَسْتَشْفِعُ بِكَ إِلَى نَفْسِكَ

allahumma in-ni ataqarrabu ilayka bi-dhikrik, wa astashfi`u bika ila nafsik

O Allah, I seek nearness to You through remembrance of You, and I seek intercession from You to Yourself,

وَأَسْأَلُكَ بِجُودِكَ أَنْ تُدْنِيَنِي مِنْ قُرْبِكَ، وَأَنْ تُوزِعَنِي شُكْرَكَ، وَأَنْ تُلْهِمَنِي ذِكْرَكَ

wa as-aluka bi-judika an tudniyani min qurbik, wa an tuzi`ani shukrak, wa an tulhimani dhikrak

And I ask You by Your generosity to bring me closer to Your presence, to grant me gratitude to You, and to inspire me with Your remembrance.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ سُؤَالَ خَاضِعٍ مُتَذَلِّلٍ خَاشِعٍ

allahumma in-ni as-aluka su'ala khadi`in mutadhallilin khashi`

O Allah, I ask You with the supplication of one who is humble, abased, and fearful,

أَنْ تُسَامِحَنِي وَتَرْحَمَنِي، وَتَجْعَلَنِي بِقِسْمِكَ رَاضِيًا قَانِعًا، وَفِي جَمِيعِ الأَحْوَالِ مُتَوَاضِعًا

an tusamihani wa tarhamani, wa taj`alani bi-qismika radiyan qani`a, wa fi jami`il-ahwali mutawadi`a

That You show clemency to me and have mercy on me, and make me satisfied and content with Your allotment, and humble in all states.

فَهَبْنِي يَا إِلٰهِي وَسَيِّدِي وَمَوْلايَ وَرَبِّي، صَبَرْتُ عَلَى عَذَابِكَ، فَكَيْفَ أَصْبِرُ عَلَى فِرَاقِكَ؟

fa-habni ya Ilahi wa Sayyidi wa Mawlaya wa Rabbi, sabartu `ala `adhabik, fa-kayfa asbiru `ala firaqik?

So grant, my God, my Master, my Protector, and my Lord, that I may have patience over Your chastisement, but how can I have patience over separation from You?

وَهَبْنِي صَبَرْتُ عَلَى حَرِّ نَارِكَ، فَكَيْفَ أَصْبِرُ عَنِ النَّظَرِ إِلَى كَرَامَتِكَ؟

wa habni sabartu `ala harri narik, fa-kayfa asbiru `anin-nazari ila karamatik?

And grant that I may have patience over the heat of Your fire, but how can I have patience from gazing upon Your generosity?

أَمْ كَيْفَ أَسْكُنُ فِي النَّارِ وَرَجَائِي عَفْوُكَ؟

am kayfa askunu fin-nari wa raja'i `afwuk?

Or how can I dwell in the Fire when my hope is Your pardon?

يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبِّ، قَوِّ عَلَى خِدْمَتِكَ جَوَارِحِي، وَاشْدُدْ عَلَى الْعَزِيمَةِ جَوَانِحِي

ya Rabbi ya Rabbi ya Rabb, qawwi `ala khidmatika jawarihi, washdud `alal-`azimati jawanih

O Lord, O Lord, O Lord! Strengthen my limbs for Your service, and bind my resolution in determination,

يَا سَرِيعَ الرِّضَا، اغْفِرْ لِمَنْ لا يَمْلِكُ إِلَّا الدُّعَاءَ، فَإِنَّكَ فَعَّالٌ لِمَا تَشَاءُ

ya Sari`ar-rida, ighfir liman la yamliku illa ad-du`a, fa-innaka fa``alul-lima tasha'

O You whose pleasure is swiftly achieved, forgive him who owns nothing but supplication, for You do whatever You will!

يَا مَنِ اسْمُهُ دَوَاءٌ، وَذِكْرُهُ شِفَاءٌ، وَطَاعَتُهُ غِنًى

ya Man ismuhu dawa', wa dhikruhu shifa', wa ta`atuhu ghina

O You whose Name is a remedy, whose remembrance is a cure, and whose obedience is wealth!

ارْحَمْ مَنْ رَأْسُ مَالِهِ الرَّجَاءُ، وَسِلاحُهُ الْبُكَاءُ

irham man ra'su malihir-raja', wa silahuhul-buka'

Have mercy upon him whose capital is hope and whose weapon is tears!

يَا سَابِغَ النِّعَمِ، يَا دَافِعَ النِّقَمِ، يَا نُورَ الْمُسْتَوْحِشِينَ فِي الظُّلَمِ، يَا عَالِمًا لا يُعَلَّمُ

ya Sabighan-ni`am, ya Dafi`an-niqam, ya Nural-mustawhishina fiz-zulam, ya `Aliman la yu`allam

O Bestower of blessings, O Repeller of calamities, O Light of those who are desolate in the darkness, O All-Knowing who was never taught!

صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، وَافْعَلْ بِي مَا أَنْتَ أَهْلُهُ، وَصَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ وَالأَئِمَّةِ الْمَيَامِينَ مِنْ آلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَسْلِيمًا كَثِيرًا

salli `ala Muhammadin wa Ali Muhammad, waf`al bi ma Anta ahluh, wa sallallahu `ala Rasulihi wal-a'immatil-mayamina min alihi wa sallama tasliman kathira

Bless Muhammad and the pure family of Muhammad, and do with me what is worthy of You, and may Allah send peace and abundant blessings upon His Messenger and the blessed Imams of his family.
