✦What is Namaz-e-Janazah (Funeral Prayer)?

Namaz-e-Janazah is a communal obligation (Fard Kifayah) performed for a deceased Muslim before burial. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "Whoever attends a funeral until prayer is offered will receive one Qirat of reward (equal to Mount Uhud)." (Sahih al-Bukhari 1325).

Janazah prayer is performed standing up without any Ruku (bowing) or Sajdah (prostration).

Step 1

1st Takbeer — Recite Surah Al-Fatiha or Sana

Raise hands to earlobes, say Allahu Akbar, fold hands, and recite Sana or Surah Al-Fatiha.

Step 2

2nd Takbeer — Recite Durood-e-Ibrahimi

Say Allahu Akbar (without raising hands) and recite Durood-e-Ibrahimi.

Step 3

3rd Takbeer — Recite Supplication for Deceased

Say Allahu Akbar and recite the authentic Janazah Dua:

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَائِبِنَا وَصَغِيرِنَا وَكَبِيرِنَا وَذَكَرِنَا وَأُنْثَانَا

Allahummaghfir li-hayyina wa mayyitina wa shahidina wa gha’ibina wa saghirina wa kabirina wa dhakarina wa unthana.

Step 4

4th Takbeer — Salam to Right & Left

Say Allahu Akbar, pause briefly, then turn head right and left saying: Assalamu 'Alaikum wa Rahmatullah.
