Ayat al-Kursi (The Verse of the Throne) is verse 255 of Surah Al-Baqarah. When Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) asked Ubayy ibn Ka'b (RA) which verse in the Quran is the greatest, Ubayy replied: "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (PBUH) repeated the question, and Ubayy answered: "Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence." In a famous narration in Sahih al-Bukhari (2311), Abu Hurairah (RA) caught a thief stealing from Zakat date stores.
